Portrait of a Godly Leader

Portrait of a Godly Leader – I Timothy 3; Titus 1
Pastor Joshua Rodriguez

{I Timothy 3:2} Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, {Titus 1:8}  Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.......

Pastor Joshua

He is …. A temperate person is “cool, calm and collected,” especially in a moment of crisis. He’s not credulous, not easily deceived, not carried away by every wind of doctrine (Ephesians 4:14). He’s old enough and experienced enough not to be rattled under pressure. You discover this quality in a person’s life as you watch them in a crisis situation. A temperate man doesn't fall apart when his world falls apart. He doesn't lose his emotional equilibrium when the rug is suddenly pulled out from under him.
He is …. Self-controlled” and “sensible. He has a way of approaching the problems of life.
He is….. Balanced, reasonable and discerning—not given to extremes. He is experienced enough to keep his balance when life throws him a curve ball. He has a sober and serious attitude.
He is…. A great man to have around when a tough decision needs to be made because he doesn't jump to conclusions or act solely on the basis of his emotions.
He  …. Loves, but he does not love indiscriminately. He gets angry, but he never “loses his cool.” He is strong physically, but he doesn't intimidate others.
He is …. not argumentative, willing to listen, not given to a fighting spirit. He is a peace-maker, but not a peace-breaker. Deals with people and their problems and remains calm under pressure and provocation.
He is …. Not self-pleasing.”  He is free from arrogant self-will, who does not always have to have his own way.
He is …. A leader who considers the whole picture before acting, he protects and does not humiliate. He “guards each man’s dignity and saves each man’s pride.” In making a decision he judges both the letter and the spirit of the law. He is willing to lose even when he is right. He is willing to yield, willing to forgive, willing to overlook.
He is ….. Well-ordered and well-arranged. “dignified.”  It is seen in his outward behavior—his dress, his manners, his speech, the way he relates to the opposite sex. It touches the way he keeps his home and how he handles the various affairs of life. He can work through difficult problems with clear thinking.
He  ….. Beautifies the gospel. He makes Jesus beautiful and the gospel attractive to outsiders.
He is ….. A lover of strangers touches your attitude toward others. He is open, approachable, vulnerable, transparent, one who genuinely cares for others.
He is ….. A combination of goodness, honesty, fair and just.  Another quality he has a “good reputation” and “good witness.” Has the “voice of the people” and the “voice of God.”
He is …..That in which his quality of life which causes him to conform to that which pleases God.  He makes it easy to believe in Jesus.
He is …. And holds the “trustworthy message”, the essential truths of the Christian faith—the fundamentals which he does not compromised. He has a well-balanced teaching of God’s Word that produces healthy Christian living. He does not hold back to “correct” or “convince” those who “contradict” the truth.
He is …. A Godly example as head of his house, he has a family that is committed to Jesus Christ, loves his wife and his wife is dedicated to his spiritual leadership, his children love Jesus Christ and love and respect him.

On behalf of myself and my entire family, we thank God for putting in our path such a man like Pastor Joshua, who has always looked out for us, loving us, encouraging us and especially   being a man to hold us accountable to the expectations of God.  We thank God for he is always stretching us further and further to grow in the path of righteousness.  Pastor Joshua has been a amazing spiritual father and a great role model for ALL of us.  Heavenly Father,  we are eternally grateful for both Pastor Joshua and Pastor Paula.
